This basic pizza crust is easy to make, light and tasty. Prepare it in advance and use it as a base for our pizza recipes.

  • 2 1/2 C flour (unbleached all purpose)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp cornmeal (medium grind)

Instructions
  1. Mix the yeast, sugar and warm water in a large bowl; allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes; stir in the flour, olive oil and salt.

  2. Knead the dough for 5 minutes; form into a large ball and return to the large (greased) bowl; flip over the ball, cover the bowl with a towel, and allow the dough to rise for one hour in a warm area.

  3. Punch down the dough; roll out the dough and spread it onto cookie sheets / pizza pans coated with non-stick cooking spray and sprinkled with the cornmeal. Cover the dough and allow it to rise for another 30 minutes.

  4. Press the dough out into the corners of the pan(s); top with pizza ingredients and bake according to the pizza recipe instructions, or partially bake fat 375 degrees for 5 minutes or until lightly browned on the bottom.

Recipe Notes

This recipe makes two crusts. Cover and refrigerate for up to one week, or freeze for up to six months.
